The DotSignage Template Editor Just Got Way Better

If you’ve been using DotSignage for your digital menus, promos, or announcements, you already know the template editor is dependable and easy to work with.

But now, it’s getting even better.

We’ve added a few thoughtful upgrades that make the digital menu boards editor smoother, quicker, and more convenient, the kind of improvements that quietly save you time and make your design work feel simpler and more enjoyable.

Nothing flashy, nothing over the top, just practical enhancements that help you get things done with less effort.

So, grab a coffee (or chai), settle in, and let’s take a look at what’s new and how it can make your digital signage workflow even easier.

1. The Ruler: The Secret Sauce Behind That Perfectly Positioned Gyro

Let’s be real, eyeballing layouts are stressful.

One pixel off and suddenly that whole menu looks like it had a long day.

But not anymore.

With the all-new ruler tool, you get a guiding grid line that helps every single element snap into clean alignment. No guesswork. No squinting.

When we first started working on this Gyro menu, the hero gyro image was slightly off, not enough for the average person to notice, but enough for us to notice.

And when something looks even a little crooked on a digital menu, it throws off the entire vibe.

So we pulled out the Ruler tool.

In a few seconds, the gyro image snapped into the exact spot it needed to be, centered, clean, and visually delicious. Suddenly the whole screen felt balanced, like the gyro was proudly saying,

“Yep, I’m the star of this show.”

And honestly?

Once you start using the ruler, you’ll want to align everything with it.

You can use it to line up:

  • your category headers
  • your price columns
  • your item descriptions
  • your food images (especially those juicy close-ups)

It’s one of those features you don’t realize you needed… until you use it once and wonder how you ever designed without it.

2. Multi-Select: The “Move Everything at Once” Lifesaver

This one’s a game-changer for anyone who edits layouts often.

Earlier, if you had to shift three text boxes, two images, and maybe a price list, you’d move them one by one. Slowly, repeat the same action.

Now? Just drag to select multiple elements with one click and move them all together.

Done. Clean. Fast.

There came a moment with our Gyro menu when the layout needed a little rearranging.

You know when things are “almost there” but not quite? That’s exactly where we were.

Instead of dragging one item at a time and slowly losing our sanity, we simply used multi-select.

We highlighted:

  • a gyro image
  • a header text
  • another text element

Boom, everything grouped together.

One drag. Clean movement. Smooth repositioning.

Suddenly, tweaking the layout felt less like a chore and more like sliding puzzle pieces into the right place.

Here are the kind of glow-ups you can pull off instantly:

  • Lift an entire “House Specials” section higher, so it finally sits where the eye naturally goes.
  • Drag the whole “Make It a Combo” box closer to your upsell items, making it impossible for customers to ignore.
  • Group all your sides under one tidy header, instead of pieces floating around like lost socks.
  • Fix weird spacing across the board without adjusting twenty tiny text boxes individually.

If your menu has multiple items, images, or sections you want to move at once, multi-select keeps the whole thing smooth and stress-free.

It’s like having the “select all” superpower you always wished your editor had.

3. Menu Scale: The One-Click Glow-Up

If you manage restaurant menus, you know the pain. One price update means touching 15 different boxes.

One layout tweak means resizing everything manually.

One design change = whole evening gone. But with the menu scale, it’s literally one click.

After arranging everything nicely, the menu still needed a little breathing room. Maybe a tad bigger. Maybe a touch more open. The kind of adjustment you normally avoid because resizing everything manually is well, torture!

Now for the part that always feels like magic.

With menu scale, it’s one click.

We scaled the whole menu and everything adjusted beautifully.

With that single click:

  • the item names grew proportionally
  • the descriptions kept their clean alignment
  • the prices lined up perfectly
  • the section headers resized smoothly
  • the spacing across the menu balanced itself out

No broken lines. No weird overlaps. No “why did this text suddenly jump?” chaos.

It’s the kind of feature that makes you stop and say,

“Alright, that was way too easy.”

And it honestly is.

Whether you’re adjusting your menu for a bigger TV, a smaller screen, or simply refreshing the layout, Menu Scale makes the whole thing feel effortless.

4. Cleaning Up the Media Library

So here’s the funny part.

When we started building the Gyro Menu, we kept uploading images, gyro close-ups, combo shots, that one perfect tzatziki drizzle photo we thought we’d use everywhere.

And before we knew it… the media library looked like a garage where every old photo comes to retire.

But here’s where DotSignage’s new update came in clutch.

At one point, we were trying to replace the hero image for the “Signature Gyro.”

We clicked into the media library… and boom – the same gyro wrap appeared seven times at slightly different angles.

We had to clean it up, fast.

So we simply:

  • Clicked on the extra images
  • hit delete
  • watched the clutter disappear

No drama. No accidental removal of an image already on the menu.

Just clean, neat, and satisfying.

And honestly?

The moment we cleared out the junk, the workflow got so much smoother.

Because when your media library is tidy:

  • You select the right image faster
  • You stop re-uploading things you already uploaded
  • You avoid confusion between “gyro-final.jpg,” “gyro-final-final.jpg,” and “gyro-real-final-this-time.jpg” 😅
  • You keep only the images that actually belong on the menu

Once the useless images were gone, choosing assets for the Gyro menu felt like picking items from a curated shelf.

And that’s the beauty of this feature.

You can keep your menu workspace fresh by removing:

  • Old seasonal images
  • Discontinued items
  • Outdated combos
  • Wrong aspect-ratio photos
  • Random assets your designer uploaded at 2 AM

It’s literally like giving your template editor a deep breath.
